!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , what is the worst bait/trap/thing you have done with your car or bike?

Kinja'd!!!

I’ll share mine first.

At the beginning of high school, I was going out with a girl whom i had met several years earlier in elementary (this didnt last long, but meh)
She shared some...stories. about a family friend that was treating her less then fairly. I was mad, but nothing I could do at the time.

Fast forward a few years. I was well into my riding career and already riding above the average skill level here (with more then a few people standing witness to this). Went on one of my mid-night hoon spirited rides and stopped for a coffee.

Lo and behold I run into the same fuck face bragging about how growing up on dirt he was a better rider on his GSXR then anyone in the city. Someone mentioned that he should go on a ride with me as I knew the ‘fun’ roads.

Normally, I do keep it slower when I have a new person riding with me, as I dont want to spook anyone nor entice a macho-man to keep up.
No such reservation was present this time around.

And I nearly made the guy put it into the gaurd rail. I try to avoid too much braking on my routes, so all he saw was a short flash to make sure the brakes where there, and then the bike basicly fell over into the turn and disappeared. All the shit talking was just shit talking. His dirt exp didnt mean shit.

After the ride he wanted to know where i learned to ride like and so on. I kept it brief and vague. He never knew I was who I was either.

So yea. Thats my bait story. Whats yours?

So you were racing on public roads? This will go over well

I know where every speed trap is on the way to and from work. If I happen to run across someone who wants to harass me (I’ve had cans of soup thrown at the car, bottles, and so on...people will just throw whatever they have on hand), I’ll “race” them. Then right before the speed trap, I slam on my brakes and send my harasser right into the hands of the police.

Unlike reporting license plates (in which I’m 100% positive nothing happens), I get to see the person get busted in real time!

I was invited to have coffee and study with a couple of friends: a woman and a man.

The woman: I love her as a friend but nothing else. The guy on the other hand wanted her as anything but a friend and my presence made the guy tense because I suppose he did not expect that I’d be a party pooper

I asked the woman if she could stay a moment with me, but she declined because the dude wanted to take her home. I insisted but he was insisting further and I didn’t want to keep on that stupid fight. The guy isn’t dangeours to her or anything, it’s just the old Mexican image of the Macho Man that never gives up on a girl even if she says no.

Like any 20 year old with a stupid fast car, the first thing I did when we all left was do a noticable burnout infront of his Nissan Kicks. I nearly got to a hundred and its the fastest I’ve accelerated the Kia ever. It was warmed up, so no damage, just some muscle flexin’

I am ashamed of myself for being such a prick.

I think all of these posts are about being irresponsible on the road and feeling ashamed/not wanting to do it again.

Take it as a pacient-therapist confidentiality priviledge when they’re not allowed to tell on you if you did something slightly not legal. Except its on the internet.

I saw someone do an illegal pass in a turn lane behind me, so I slowed down to slightly below the speed limit because I knew a cop was ahead. They did what I wanted then to do. They passed me in a turn lane in front of a cop.

Oh, I looked up all the speed cameras when my car had its temp permit (which here goes on the front of the car)
So, confused bureaocrat looking at a picture of a Kia doing 130 in the elevated ringroad without a licence plate... it was me..

Oh, cyclist here get away with everything. Whenever I am in a hurry and I go quickly on my bike I end up doing all sorts of jumps and such through the city landscape (there’s a particular speed hump where I get almost a meter of air if I jump it right)

I’ve done this too! Been a long time though. Last time I “gave in” to a street race and I let off @ 60 in a 55 zone. Dude must have been doing over 100 when he passed the state trooper.

This isn’t a good look, but I feel mildly guilty about it.

I partied when I shouldn’t have, had to pick up my sister from the airport the next day. The air port was a few hours away but on the way to our mom’s house. I got drunk, didn’t plug my phone in and it died about a foot from my charger. To compensate for waking up late I decided to speed.

Was doing roughly a hundred for 2 hours of driving. Stupid.

After about an hour I passed a Black G8 (or maybe an SS). The driver decides to hang out behind doing the same speed. But far enough back that they go in and out of sight, a safe distance.

My radar detector goes off. Hit the brakes, finish going around the corner and theres the cop. The G8 wasn’t so lucky, see the lights go on in my mirror. Driver definitely hated me.

Oh, here I try to never stop or ride along in anyone’s blindspot, generally when I overtake cars (and they get very fucking pissed when someone in a bycicle overtakes them!) I use the whole lane if its at speed, or I crawl around them if its in traffic. Here in parts of the city we have preference lanes where you’re supposed to use th entire lane, which I do in mild and light trafic so that people use the other lane to overtake me rather than pushing me to the curb.

I once found myself boxed in by some busses and I thought to myself I would die that day.

I also use the curb if its late at night and I don’t want my derrailour used as decoration on the car of whoever runs me over because they were drunk or didn’t see me.

I was driving this (my very first car), basically - same color, same hubcaps, and on 7.35x14 bias plies:

Kinja'd!!!

Kinja'd!!!

I was first in a left turn lane, with a jacked up, primered ‘71 Chevelle behind me, revving his motor (sounded like unmuffled exhaust, too)— picture this. A hot rod wannabe - but this was 1984, and cars like that could be really fast, or really slow, you never knew.

Kinja'd!!!

When the light changed, I actually took the turn slowly, knowing he was going to try to blow by me. I actually waited until he did that and got almost alongside me before I floored it. He never did get by me - despite letting him get into the throttle well before me, I started slowly pulling away until we had to let off.

Came to the next light, and he stopped along side me, just looking at my ugly beige Cutlass on cheap, crappy tires, and just looked me, dumbfounded. I don’t even think he was mad — just shocked.

im in the netherlands.. so nearly always on a bike lane (well unless im being a dick and cutting thru parks n shit) not much you can do if a van overtakes you and then decides to turn off

other than jam on the brakes and call them names (rode straight into the side of one once as he was watching me come towards him but decided to cross at the very last moment anyway)

Last summer I was heading home from work at night. I see an 8th gen Civic Si coming up behind me, flashing his lights. I just cruising at 100kph (90kph speed limit) in 6th, I’m on a 2 lane divided hwy. He changes lanes, then slows down to my speed. I roll down my window, I say 3rd gear. In 6th the turbo is quiet, I went into 4th to use the mid-range torque. He flashes his high beams 3 times, then hammer down. I pull ahead a hair, I keep pulling & his Si is falling back. Shame that he has to look at my ugly tail lights. I only let off because I knew there was a speed trap ahead. I never edorse street racing, & don’t like doing it but I wanted him away from me.

I practice defensive riding: I know most people did not read the traffic code here, so instead I just asume everyone is out to kill me and it has worked thus far. We’re taught to guess what people will do, if I use the protected bike path along some of the streets and I see a van stopping I know it will turn my way, if I see moving slightly to the left I also know it will turn because they were just changing their turning circle to better fit the turn. I know most Europeans drive better than us (at least that’s what the spanish and french highways have shown me) but you guys often lack a bit of spacial awearness, pedestrians, cars and bicycles drive as if nothing will happen, we forget we’re dealing with very heavy objects that go very quickly and slightly heavy objects that go quite quickly, and light objects that move very slowly

The only time I endanged myself was my fault because my chain broke and I went down with the bike the Audi behind me barely stopped a few centimeters away from me. the chain broke because I was putting too much pressure on it and it was old.

if the spanish and french highways made you think europeans drive better than you... then... im gonna have to admit you are much better at riding defensive than i am

we think all their drivers are nutcases over here :p

Oh, Spanish drivers suck in cities (again, its this spacial awearness ya’ll lack), but they are way better than us in highways. I have seen some things here that make little to no sense. It also helps that in europe cars get inspected often and highways have smooth surfaces and logical signeage. I mean look at this piece of shit:

Kinja'd!!!

This corner always see accidents because people don’t realize that cars handle differently at 80 in a highway than they do at 50 in an onramp. My kia, a “sports sedan” was already being unberable in that corner at the posted limit: 50km/h. The only sign alerting you about the impending doom is like 300m away and no one fucking reads it .

I had a dude overtake me in his stupid mazda 3 and then having to lock up the wheels for being stupid.

I’ve never driven in a french city (I mean, Lourdes isn’t a city, right?) but they seem to simply like going a bit above the speed limit.

i dont think we even have a highway with anything like that turn in my country (the french and the spanish probably do)

but yeah signage is good.. cars are inspected regularly... and well.. the driving test aint easy... so im sure that makes a difference (at least on the highways)

ive driven thru paris once... it was chaotic.. but i think that was down to the roads as much as the traffic

Most national roads in Galicia have turns like that. But these are roads with 50km/h limits and uncrouded, not an interstate highway.

The best road i’ve even driven on was probably in Galicia... I can’t remember the name but it was beautiful.... I do remember that one of the better ones is the Ou-212 by the southwest. (but be careful not to go in winter because of ice)

I don’t consciously bait, but I do travel quickly through roundabouts and cloverleaf ramps and don’t feel particularly obligated to slow down for the benefit of anyone who might be mindlessly pacing me from behind. Let’s just say I’ve seen more than a few peoples’ code brown play out in my rear view mirror. It turns out there’s a bit of a handling performance delta between a Miata on aggressive summer tires and the average van/truck/suv/crossover. Who knew?

I was once doing well over the speed limit on the interstate and found a trooper waiting on the far side of a hill. I let off the gas in the vain hope he wouldn’t catch me, but I saw him light up as I went past. My heart lept into my throat and I started working on the story I was going to tell my mom. That’s when the minivan blew past me on the right.

It wasn’t planned. I didn’t even know he was behind me. But I will always be thankful for that guy taking the fall.
